NAAWS Chapter Tasting Event Cost

The “Cost per Attendee” for a Chapter tasting event shall cover all actual tasting event cost and it will vary from tasting to tasting based on the cost of the wines, food and weather there is an facilities cost. A donation to the AWS National Education Foundation and Chapter administrative cost will also be included on the cost per attendee.

  • Cost per Attendee
    • Tasting event cost shall be set between $30.00 to $40.00 dollars per attendee.
    • Tasting event cost shall be set in coordination with Chapter Program’s Director who has the authority to approve all tasting cost up to $40.00 dollars per attendee.
    • A tasting event costing greater than $40.00 dollars per attendee shall require advance NAAWS board approval.
  • Wine Cost
    • Plan to select and purchase 6 to 7 different type of wine bottles. It is recommended the aperitif be a sparkling wine, but it can also be the host’s preference. Example: If hosting a Portuguese tasting it might be preferable to serve a white port in lieu of a sparkling wine as the aperitif.
    • Plan to server 12 people per each 750ml bottle (2 oz pour/attendee)
      • For a group size of 30-36 people buy a minimum of 4 bottles per each type of wine.
      • For a group of 40+ people buy 5 bottles per each type of wine.
      • Plan to keep one bottle as a reserve.
      • If the reserve bottle is not utilized the Chapter will if necessary purchase the wine back, or the Host can elect to absorb the wine cost and keep the bottle(s).
  • Food Cost
    • The host(s) has a budget of up to $7.00 dollars for food expenses
    • The host may voluntarily elect to incur all cost for food expend above $7.00 dollars
    • If the host expenses the $7.00 to the chapter, then money needs to be spent towards food, not decorations and so forth.
  • Facility Cost
    • All tasting event cost due to the use of a facility other than the host house shall require Chapter board approval and will be factored into the cost of the tasting.
    • The host will coordinate facility cost and present to Chapter Program Director who in turn will present the cost to the Chapter board for approval.
    • Members electing to utilize a facility that incurs a cost will no be afforded a free tasting.
  • Other Cost
    • A $2.00 dollar donation for the AWS National Education Foundation will be collected as part of the Cost per attendee
    • A $2.00 dollar fee will be added to tasting per attendee to cover payment transaction fee and administrative cost
